Jio already boasts India’s largest cellular network. Company entered the smartphone segment last year with a budget JioPhone Next.
Jio has already commenced testing of its 5G capabilities in India. To cater 5G mobile market, company is working on a budget 5G smartphone in India which is dubbed as JioPhone 5G.
JioPhone 5G specifications (Rumored)
Unlike its 4G predecessor, the JioPhone 5G will come with a modern design. It will run on Android 11 OS and includes Jio Digital Suite and Google Play Services.
It will come with dual SIM connectivity and support 5G (N3/N5/N28/N48/N78) bands. A fingerprint sensor will be present on side for secure authentication.
Other JioPhone 5G specs include 6.5-inch IPS LCD display with 1600 x 720 pixels resolution at 20:9 aspect ratio. Under the hood is an octa-core Snapdragon 480 5G mobile platform with Adreno 619 GPU.
The cell phone will include 4GB RAM and 32GB storage space. It will feature a dedicated microSD card slot for further storage expansion. In terms of cameras, the JioPhone 5G houses 13 (main, AF) and 2MP (macro, F/2.4) cameras at back with LED flash. An 8MP camera will be present at front.
The cell phone will feature a 5000mAh non-removable battery and supports 18W Fas charging. Connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth V5.1 and GPS/GLONASS/Navic will be supported.
JioPhone 5G launch date in India
The handset is still a prototype. Moreover, Jio has yet to commercially launch its 5G mobile services in India. Sources hint that JioPhone 5G will debut later in year 2022.
As far as price of JioPhone 5G is concerned, it is expected to cost anywhere between Rs. 9000 ($120) to Rs. 12,000 ($160).
