LG Innotek Flexible Textile Pressure Sensor announced

LG Innotek is a cutting-edge materials and components manufacturer and affiliate of LG group. The company has unveiled its new Flexible Textile Pressure Sensor.
It is bendable and senses pressure from entire surface. It is made from highly elastic polyurethane material inserted between electronic fibres to fit body comfortably. It can measure face pressure distribution by sensing capacitance change cause by pressure.
LG Innotek has filed thirteen patents regarding the Flexible Textile Pressure Sensor technology in South Korea. The product is very durable in various environments. It works for more than 240 hours in temperatures ranging from -40 degrees to 80 degree plus.  It can even function even after 70kg man sits on sensor for 100,000 times.
Unlike past flexible sensor solutions, LG Innotek’s sensor makes more uniform measurements and does not irritate the skin like the old PED-based  sensors.
The sensor, in health care sector, can help improve accuracy of Telemedicine. Once worn by patients, it can detect body balance and acting patterns. The information collected will be automatically sent to medical centres.
The Flexible Textile pressure sensor can even detect pressure and position of your hands on golf club.  Automotive could benefit as well as it can measure pressure on the seats, posture and sends data automatically.
According to BBC Research & Consulting, a global market research institute, the global pressure sensor market is expected to grow from USD 11.5 billion in 2014 to USD 16.3 billion in 2019. The annual average growth rate is expected to be 7.2% between 2014 and 2019.
Changhwan Kim, Head of the LG Innotek’s R&D Center said –

We tried to break away from the previous method and attempt new methods to develop innovative products.” He also said, “We will continue to develop materials and components in various fields to provide new experiences to our customers.
