MediaTek Kompanio 1380 SoC unveiled

MediaTek has officially announced its latest chipset for Chromebook and premium Tablets. The SoC is dubbed as Kompanio 1380 (MT8195T).

The chipset is based on TSCM 6nm process technology. It houses eight cores (up to 3Ghz High Performance Cortex-A78 x 4 + up to 2GHz Power-Efficient Cortex-A55 x 4) and includes ARM Mali-G57 MC5 GPU.

The Kompanio 1380 supports 2133MHz LPDDR4X RAM and allows eMMC / UFS / NVMe storage. The SoC includes MediaTek APU 3.0 that delivers 4 TOPS performance.

The SoC easily handles display resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K) / 2560 x 1600 pixels (2.5K) and 2520 x 1080 pixels (FHD+). The chipset brings support for up to three independent displays, with two 4K60 HDR displays or 2.5K at up to 120Hz.

It supports H.264 / H.265 / HEVC encoding and H.264 / H.265 / HEVC / VP-9 / AV1 decoding. The MediaTek MT8195T also handles 7.1 surround sound audio.

For optics, MediaTek Kompanio 1380 allows 16MP + 16MP dual cameras and supports 3840 x 2160 pixels (4K) video recording. For connectivity, it has Wi-Fi 6 / 6E 802.11 a/b/g/n/ac/ax and Bluetooth V5.0. The SoC supports GPS/GLONASS/Beidou/Galilio/QZSS as well.
