Entry Level smartphones takes up a major share, at least in terms of sales numbers. Looking at the demand, Qualcomm has announced its latest Qualcomm 205 Mobile Platform at an event held in Delhi, India. Qualcomm also went on to showcase a VoLTE feature phone (with keyboard) developed by FIH/Megafone.

The SoC is aimed at rapidly developing markets like India, South East Asia and Latin America and will be available to OEMs and ODMs. It brings VoLTE (Voice over LTE) and VoWi-Fi (Voice over Wi-Fi) support  to consumers, micro-enterprises at an economical prices.

The Qualcomm 205 (MSM8905) mobile platform features in 1.1GHz dual-core CPU’s, using 28nm LP process technology. It has Adreno 304 GPU and supports OpenGL ES 3.0.

It supports LPDDR2 / LPDDR3 memory (RAM) and eMMC 4.5 storage. It also comes integrated with X5 LTE global Mode modem that supports GSM, HSPA+, TD-SCDMA, SDS, VoLTE and VoWi-FI
It is capable of delivering Cat4 download speeds (150Mbps UL / 50Mbps DL). It supports LTE multi-mode dual SIM and LTE broadcast as well.

The Qualcomm 205 has Linux based software platform.It has Qualcomm SecureMSM technology and Qualcomm Snapdragon StudioAccess Technology.

The chipset handles up to VGA display and can carry VGA front camera and 3MP rear camera. The devices powered MSM8905 chip can handle 720p videos decode at 30fps, encode 480p at 30fps, MP4, VP8 and H.264.

It supports Global Emergency Services. OTDOA, Assisted GPS, Advance Location Features, Low power Geofencing and tracking. Other connectivity options. It also integrates Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth V4.1, ANT+, GPS/GLONASS/Beidou and FM Radio.

The devices powered by Qualcomm 205 platform will be available sometime in Q2, 2017. OEM’s and ODM’s can get it starting today. Qualcomm has also partnered with (in alphabetic order)  Borqs, CKT, Flex, FIH/Megafone, HiPad, Huiye, LYF, Micromax, Reliance Jio, TCL, TSM, Uniscope, Viroyal/Feixun to deliver VoLTE feature phones in different markets, including India.
