Samsung Electronics 16GB GDDR6 memory production commences

Samsung Electronics has begun production of industry’s first 16GB GDDR6 memory for Advanced Graphics system.
It offers twice the speed and density levels than current GDDR5 offering. It is built on Samsung’s advanced 10-nanomter (nm) class process technology and comes with 16GB density.
It delivers 18 Gigabits per second pin speed with data transfer going at 72 Gigabytes per second. It is twice increase over 8Gb GDDR5 with its 8Gbps pin speed.
The 16GB GDDR6 memory features in low-power circuit design, which operates at 1.35V for lower energy consumption. It can easily handle 8K Ultra HD video processing, virtual reality (VR), augmented reality (AR) and artificial intelligence.
The Samsung 16GB GDDR6 will be widely used in Advanced Graphics systems, gaming devices, Automotive, Network and AI syatems.
Jinman Han, senior vice president, Memory Product Planning & Application Engineering at Samsung Electronics. Said –

Beginning with this early production of the industry’s first 16Gb GDDR6, we will offer a comprehensive graphics DRAM line-up, with the highest performance and densities, in a very timely manner. By introducing next-generation GDDR6 products, we will strengthen our presence in the gaming and graphics card markets and accommodate the growing need for advanced graphics memory in automotive and network systems.
