Samsung Exynos 9 Series 8895 octa-core chipset goes official

Samsung Electronics has officially announced its Exynos 9 Series 8895 SoC. It is made using 10nm FinFET process technology.
It is an octa-core processor of which, four cores are Samsung’s 2nd generation custom designed CPU cores. It offers improved performance yet maintaining power efficiency. In addition to that, there are four Cortex-A53 cores as well.
It has Samsung Coherent Interconnect (SCI) Technology that integrates a heterogeneous system architecture for faster computing, AI and deep learning. The chipset supports display with up to WQUXGA (3840 x 2400) or 4K UH (4096 x 2160) resolutions.
The Exynos 9 Series 8895 is the first processor of its kind by Samsung to embed a Gigabit LTE Modem. It supports 5CA (five carrier aggregation) and delivers through-put at maximum of 1Gbps (Cat.16) downlink (with 5CA) and 150Mbps (Cat.13) uplink (with 2CA).
Its 10nm FinFET technology boasts improved 3D transistor structure, resulting in to 27% higher performance and 40% lesser power consumption when compared to 14nm.
Samsung Exynos 9 Series 8895 SoC image-02The Exynos 8895 comes bundled with ARM’s latest Mali-G71 GPU that will offer enhanced gaming experience. It has multi-format codec (MFC) as well for next level 3D performance. This will result in minimized latency for 4K UHD V4 and gaming.
It brings support for cameras up to 28MP, including front and rear cameras with dual Sensors.
Moreover, its advanced MFC brings support for video recording and playback at maximum of 4K UHD resolution at 120 fps.  The chipset delivers realistic and immersive VR video experience at 4K resolutions, at higher / enhanced image quality with its Video processing technology.
Samsung has equipped Exynos 8895 SoC with a separate processing unit for security solutions, required for mobile payments, fingerprint and Iris recognition. It has Vision Processing Unit (VPU) that recognizes and analyzes items or movements for improved video tracking, panoramic image processing and machine vision technology.
The Samsung Exynos 9 Series 8895 chipset is already in mass production. It is expected to feature in Samsung’s upcoming Flagship Galaxy S8 series phones.
Ben Hur, Vice President of System LSI marketing at Samsung Electronics said –

In addition to being built on the most advanced 10nm FinFET process technology, the new Exynos 9 Series 8895 incorporates Samsung’s cutting-edge technologies including a 2nd generation custom CPU, gigabit LTE modem, and more. With industry leading technologies like VPU, the Exynos 8895 will drive the innovation of next generation smartphones, VR headsets, and automotive infotainment system.
