Samsung Pay launched in Australia, partners with American Express and Citibank

Samsung Pay has landed in Australia. It will work starting today with compatible Samsung phones including, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge.

Samsung Pay has partnered with American Express and Citibank to launch its fast, secure and simple payment service. It makes use of Near Field Communication (NFC) and Samsung’s proprietary technology called the Magnetic Secure Transmission (MST), making it the only payment solution, widely acceptable in the country.
It has three level of security including fingerprint authentication, tokenisation and Samsung KNOX. Moreover, each transaction in encrypted by digital token and is approved by a fingerprint or pin. It can also be used without internet connectivity.
Users will require Samsung phones running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS to use Samsung Pay. Telstra users of S6, S6 Edge and Note5 will get Samsung Pay “soon”.  Note that the payment feature will only be compatible on MST and/or NFC payment terminals (some supported only after software upgrades. Limited offline transactions will be allowed as well depending on the scheme.
