Sony Mobile plans to ‘defocus’ on India, China and US markets

Sony held an Investor day in Tokyo, Japan to discuss business strategy, analytic and different aspects of business. The event has revealed a valuable piece of information regarding future business plans of Sony.
Sony Mobile decided to “defocus” on certain markets like USA, China, Brazil and India. According to the observations on its regional sales performance and forecasts, company expects FY15-17 CAGR growth in these markets to be mere 0.3%. Comparatively, last years estimation were +8.1%.

“DeFocus” does not mean that Sony will stop selling these handsets in said markets, but do expect lesser marketing efforts, schemes and offers. Sony will instead be focusing their efforts on East Asia (including Japan), Middle East and European markets.
Another interesting analysis provided by Sony in terms of Smartphones is that the company is betting big on its premium segments, phones priced above $ 250 mark. According to Sony Mobile, there are about 10 major players that offers phone under this segment.
