Xiaomi Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus announced – Specs, Price

Xiaomi expands its Redmi Series lineup with the announcement of two new smartphones called Redmi 5 and Redmi 5 Plus. Both of these mobiles were unveiled at an event in China.
Both of these cell phones will go on sale in China from December 12th. They come in Black, Gold, Rose Gold and Light Blue colors.

Xiaomi Redmi 5

The phone measures 151.8 x 72.8 x 7.7 mm and weighs 157 grams. It has Hybrid Dual SIM slots (Nano + Nano / MicroSD) and supports 4G VoLTE. It is also equipped with fingerprint sensor at the back.
The Redmi 5 specs include 5.7-inch 2.5D curved glass display with 1440 x 720 pixels HD+ resolution, 18:9 aspect ratio and supports multi-touch. Under the hood is 1.8GHz octa-core Snapdragon 450 Mobile Platform with Adreno 506 GPU.
The handset comes 2GB RAM with 16GB storage and 3GB RAM with 32GB internal memory. The storage is further expandable up to 128GB using MicroSD card. The hardware is powered by 3300 mAh (typical) / 3200 mAh (minimum) battery.
The Redmi 5 Features in 5MP front facing camera with LED Flash. On the back side is a 12MP main shooter with LED Flash, F/2.2 Aperture, 1.25µm pixel size and supports PDAF.
Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth V4.2, GPS/GLONASS, 3.5mm Audio Jack etc. The handset runs on Android 7.1.2 with MIUI 9 on top. It has IR sensor as well.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 price starts at 799 Yuan (US$ 120 / Rs. 7,800 approx.) for 2GB RAM / 16GB ROM model and goes up to 899 Yuan (US$ 135 / Rs. 8,770 apporx.) for 3GB RAM / 32GB internal storage variant.

Th Plus variant offers upgraded specifications. It has 5.99-inch 2.5D curved glass multi-touch display with 2160 x 1080 pixels Full HD+ resolution. It has 18:9 aspect ratio, 450nits brightness, 84% NTSC color Gamut and 1000:1 contrast ratio.
The cell phone has dimensions of 158.5 x 75.45 x 8.05 mm and weighs 180 grams. It is powered by 3900 mAh (minimum) / 4000 mAh (typical) battery. It has Fingerprint Sensor, IR Sensor and sports Hybrid Dual Nano SIM Slots (one doubles up for MicroSD).
Under the hood is 2GHz octa-core Snapdragon 625 Mobile Platform with Adreno 506 GPU. It has 3GB RAM with 32GB ROM and 4GB RAM with 64GB internal storage option. The storage memory is further expandable up to 128GB using MicroSD card.
The Redmi 5 Plus specs include 12MP main camera with dual-tone LED Flash, F/2.2 Aperture, 1.25µm pixel size, PDAF and 1080p video recording support. On the front is 5MP selfie camera with LED Flash.
The handset runs on Android 7.1.2 Nougat with MMIUI 9 on top. It also supports Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Dual Band (2.4/5GHz), Bluetooth V4.2, GPS/GLONASS, 3.5mm Audio jack etc.
The Xiaomi Redmi 5 Plus price starts at 999 Yuan (US$ 151 / Rs. 9,750 approx.) for 3GB RAM / 32GB storage model. The 4GB RAM / 64GB storage variant costs 1299 Yuan (US$ 195 / Rs. 12,680 approx.)
