Xiaomi Surge S1 is a 2.2GHz octa-core 64-bit SoC with Mali-T860 GPU

Xiaomi has officially revealed its first in-house SoC chipset called Surge S1 as expected. With this Xiaomi enters in the lists of market leaders like Apple, Samsung and Huawei to have their in-house Chipset.
The Xiaomi Surge S1 is a octa-core chipset consisting of Cortex-A53 cores, running at a maximum speed of 2.2GHz. It has big.LITTLE architecture for efficient use of all the eight cores.
It is made using 28nm High Performance Computing (HPC) process and Integrates Mali-T860 GPU.
It’s 32-bit High performance DSP delivers better voice processing for calls. It’s image processing capabilities are further enhanced with its 14-bit dual ISP.
Xiaomi’s Surge ISP algorithm improves camera light sensitivity by 150%. The Surge S1 SoC also supports High quality VoLTE call and video. It has chip-level security features like TEE architecture and strict compliances with safety regulations.

“The design objectives are to balance performance and power efficiency and to produced in a large scale” – said the company.

It took Xiaomi & Pinecone 28 months for the processor to go from planning stage to mass production. The Xiaomi Mi 5C smartphone will be powered by Xiaomi Surge S1 Chipset .
