Garmin Instinct outdoor smartwatch with GPS unveiled for $299

Garmin has official unveiled its latest smartwatch called INSTINCT. It is specially designed for outdoor activities and is aimed at travelers and sports persons.

The Garmin Instinct sports fiber reinforced polymer case and is built with chemically strengthened and scratch-resistant display which is easy to read even in direct sunlight. The smartwatch comes with fully vented silicone bands and includes two independent, removable keeper loops to ensure a secure fit.

Additionally, Garmin Instinct is constructed to military standardss (MIL-STD-810G) for thermal, shock and 10ATM rating (water resistance up to 100 meters). Shortly, the watch is built to endure challenging environments.

The smartwatch has physical dimensions of 45 x 45 x 15.3 mm and weighs about 52 grams. Its display has custom two window design (23 x 23 mm) with monochrome display type, 128 x 128 pixels resolution and transflective memory-in-pixel.

The Instinct features multiple GNSS satellite networks (GPS/GLONASS/Balileo) for location tracking. Smartwatch owners can use Garmin Explore app to plan the trip in advance and can easily head back to base camp using TracBack feature.

The batter of Garmin Instinct gives about 14 days in smartwatch mode, up to 16 hours with GPS mode and up to 40 hours on UltraTrac mode.

It has wrist based heart rate sensor, which helps monitor daily activity, stress levels, sleep and other wellness data. The smartwatch can not only track hear rate but also steps taken, distance traveled, calories burned etc. Activity tracking like Hiking, Running, Biking, Swimming, Kayaking and Skiing are supported.

The Garmin Instinct easily connects with smartphones using Bluetooth. Once connected, it can show smart notifications, text response or reject phone call, calendar, weather, control music, VIRB Camera remote etc. The smartwatch is compatible with most Android Smartphones and iPhones and is compatible with Garmin Connect for Mobile.
