Huawei, at an event held in Beijing (China) has announced its premium system-on-chip (SoC) called Kirin 960. It is said to offer 15% performance upgrade, 180% powerful GPU and 20% energy efficiency when compared to its predecessor, which is Kirin 950.
The Kirin 960 SoC features eight cores (octa-core) consisting of up to 2.4GHz Cortex A73 quad-cores + up to 1.8GHz Cortex A53 quad cores. It is built on 16nm FinFET process and includes a unique security engine with new 3-tire security system inSE for financial industry standard encryption.
It has upgraded Mali-G71 MP8 GPU and supports Vulkan as well. The Chip brings support for LPDDR4 RAM, UFS 2.1 storage and allows 4K video recording as well.
The Kirin 960 SoC is equipped with IntelliSense i6 for low power operation when gathering data from sensors like accelerometer, compass, gyroscope etc. It supports active noise reduction, HD Voice+ and 24-bit 192kHz audio as well.
The chipset uses multi-mode 4G LTE Modem that offers Cat12 (FDD/TDD) downloads and Cat13 (FDD/TDD) uploads of up to 15 Mbps. Wi-Fi 2×2 MIMI will be supported as well.
Huawei Kirin 960 is expected to power upcoming Mate 9 smartphone, which is slated to go official at Germany on November 3rd. Official availability details were not revealed.
