Sony expands its gaming ecosystem and has announced PlayStation 4 Pro at a conference in New York. PS4 Pro, previously codenamed ‘Neo’ has improved hardware, compact and energy efficient.
The Volume of this newly launched gaming console has been reduced by 30%, weight by 16% and power consumption by 28%. It is sleek and delivers cutting-edge visuals and graphics. It supports 4K resolution and High Dynamic Range (HDR) at smooth frame rates. In terms of measurements, external dimensions are about 295 x 55 x 327 mm (W x H x D) and weighs 3.3 Kg. It comes with 1TB hard disk, Super-Speed USB 3.1 Gen port x 3 and read-only Optical drive.
It has more powerful GPU and faster CPU at the core to ensure the best performance. It delivers sharper graphics at 4K’s higher resolution and delivers real life images using HDR. It has Single-Chip custom main processor while its CPU consists of x86-64 AMD “Jaguar” 8 cores. Inside is AMD Radeon based graphics engine capable of delivering 4.20 TFLOPS. Inside is 8GB GDDR5 memory.
Some developers are already updating previously launched PS4 games to add PS4 Pro support, while others are including the support in upcoming game releases. You can download patches for games like Uncharted 4, while the PS4 Pro enhancements comes built-in Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, Horizon: Zero Dawn, Mass Effect: Andromeda and Days gone. Moreover, it will also stream 4K content on Netflix and YouTube using PS4 Pro. Lack of UHD BluRay support is surprising.
The Sony PlayStation 4 Pro is priced at US$ 399 (CAD$ 499.99) and will be available from November 10th. Sony has also released a slimmer variant called the PS4 Slim. It will be priced at US$ 299.
