Thuraya has unveiled world first Android powered satellite phone called X5-Touch. It is bulky and is quite different from traditional Android phones.
The Thuraya X5-Touch has dimensions of 145 x 78 x 24mm and has weight of 262 grams.It is IP67 rated for water and dust resistance. The smartphone also complies with MIL-810 G/F and can withstand shocks, vibrations and extreme temperatures.
It has 5.2-inch S-IPS display with 1920 x 1080 pixels resolution, 16:9 aspect ratio and multi-touch support. It has gorilla Glass protection as well and supports glove touch.
The device is powered by octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 625 Mobile Platform with Adreno 506 GPU. It has 2GB RAM, 16GB internal storage space and allows further expansion up to 32GB using MicroSD card. The handset comes pre-installed with Android 7.1.2 Nougat OS.
It has dual Nano SIM slots with Dual Mode and supports Thuraya’s L-band satellite network along with GSM 2G/3G/4G/LTE. The phone comes with dedicated SOS button which is easy to use at time of distress. Even when the phone is switched off, simply press and host SOS button for 3 seconds which starts the mobile and triggers the SOS (and/or SMS) to pre-programmed number.
The Thuraya X5-touch specs include 2MP front and 8MP auto focus camera at the back with LED flash. It has 3000 mAh Li-Ion battery that powers the hardware. Usual connectivity options like Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Wi-Fi Hotspot, Bluetooth V4.2, GPS/GLONASS/BeiDou and NFC is supported.
The mobile also houses several sensors like Accelerometer, Gyroscope, Compass, Barometer, Proximity etc.
The Thuraya X5-Touch price is £999 (US$ 1285 / Rs. 91,750 approx.) and will be available across 99 countries in December.
