Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) has officially announced its latest Bluetooth 5 wireless standard. It’s specifications are scheduled to be released by latest 2016 or early 2017.
The Bluetooth 5 features 4 times the range of low energy connections yet doubling its speed. It has new functions for connectionless services like location relevant information and navigation. It has increased capacity of connectionless data broadcasting by 800-percent.
It has eight times the broadcast messaging capacity as well. The BT5 wireless standard has features that will increase adoption and deployment of location-based services and beacons in home atomation, enterprise and industrial markets.
The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) expects 371 million beacons to be distributed in the world by 2020. It also has an all-time high of 30,000 member companies to build and accessible, interoperable IoT.
Mark Powell, executive director of the Bluetooth SIG, said –
Bluetooth 5 will transform the way people experience the IoT by making it something that happens simply and seamlessly around them, Increasing operation range will enable connections to IoT devices that extend far beyond the walls of a typical home, while increasing speed supports faster data transfers and software updates for devices. And now with the ability to broadcast a much richer set of information, Bluetooth 5 will make beacons, location awareness, and other connectionless services an even more relevant part of an effortless and seamless IoT experience
