MediaTek has unveiled M70 5G modem successor called M80 5G Modem. With this, MediaTek has finally added support for mmWave and sub-6 GHz 5G technologies.
The MediaTek M80 5G model supports ultra-fast speeds on both non-standalone (NSA) and standalone (SA) architectures. It is capable of delivering speeds of 7.67Gbps (peak) downlink and 3.76Gbps uplink.
Additionally, the Chip brings support for dual 5G SIM, dual 5G NSA and SA Networks along with dual Voice over New Radio (VoNR) for reliability. The new Modem is ideal for range of devices including smartphones, PCs, Mi-Fi hotspots, broadband customer premises equipment (CPE), industrial IoT applications and more.
The MediaTek M80 integrates MediaTek’s 5G UltraSave technologies on a single-chip design to deliver extensive power-saving enhancements. Additionally, it has MediaTek’s UltraSave Network Environment Detection and UltraSave OTA Content awareness technologies which dynamically adjusts power configuration and operating frequency on the network environment.
Moreover, the M80 5G modem also integrates Dynamic Bandwidth Part (BWP) technology which optimizes bandwidth use to accommodate light or heavy data throughput requests. It’s Connected Mode DRX (C-DRX) tech keeps the modem powered in connected standby even when there is no data activity.
Some of key features of MediaTek M80 5G Modem
- 3GPP Release 16 standard
- Sub-6 GHz and mmWave dual connectivity and carrier aggregation
- 5G NR (FR1) with more than two carrier aggregation
- 5G mmWave (FR2) up to 8CC
- 5G carrier aggregation with Mixed Duplex (TDD + FDD)
